Taking Stock – Planning for Dry Times
Preparing for dry times is essential to maintaining productivity and viability of farming businesses across Australia. As part of the Saving Our Soils During Drought Program, NSW Local Land Services has produced a series of webinars for livestock producers across the NSW state to assist landholders in the decision-making and management of their livestock through dry times.
Webinar: The big question: Do I keep and feed or sell in a falling market?
Presenter: Phil Graham (Graham Advisory)
When: Wednesday 25th Oct – 7pm-830pm

Description: One of the most difficult decisions in dry times is making a call on what stock you sell and what stock you retain and feed. Every drought/dry period is different, so a good strategy in the last drought might not necessarily be a good strategy this time. This needs to be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Phil will outline the key challenges facing producers at present and factors to consider when developing your specific strategy. Phil will also look at various destocking options for sheep and cattle operations and their associated impacts on livestock numbers and cash flow in the short to medium term.
Phil has 45 years in front line advisory work mainly in the livestock industries including sheep, beef, goats and dairy production. In the last 33 years Phil has played a major role in developing and delivering various industry courses and programs including Prograze, Prograze Plus, Stockplan and Five Easy Steps. Graham Advisory was formed in 2017, specialising in helping producers fine-tune their livestock business.
