Dear all,

We’re now halfway through the year and I’m pleased to say we’ve already achieved a great deal.

Our Livestock Production Assurance (LPA) program is undergoing a range of enhancements with a new Self-Assessment tool on track to launch in coming months. As you’ll see in this month’s stories, a new voluntary LPA module for harvested rangeland goats will also be available from October, enabling HRG producers to continue mob-based movements after 1 January 2025.

Sheep and Goat Traceability Standards

In other news, SAFEMEAT recently endorsed the new NLIS Sheep and Goat Traceability Standards. This is an important step as the new standards reflect the transition to mandatory national electronic identification (eID) for sheep and goats from 1 January 2025.

The annual ISC State & Territory Partner Webinar Series will kick off later this month, with a focus on preparing for the eID rollout. Options to register for this series, as well as other eID webinars and in-person events can be found here. For goat producers/owners, the Goat Industry Council of Australia (GICA) will be hosting an information session at the Quorn Showgrounds on Wednesday, 17 July.

Demonstrated value of eIDs

The shift to mandatory eIDs for sheep and goats is critical from a traceability standpoint but this change also stands to deliver many on-farm productivity and profitability opportunities for producers, as demonstrated in this month’s feature story.

A recent webinar from Meat & Livestock Australia’s Productivity & Profitability series also does a terrific job of outlining these benefits with the help of SheepMetriX partner, Sally Martin. The webinar, eID – does it really add value?, explains how eIDs can be used to efficiently collect and use data, and how this data can be used to deliver the desired breeding and production objectives.

ISC at LambEx

This year’s LambEx conference event will take place at the Adelaide Convention Centre from 7 to 9 August. ISC will have representatives at the event ready to answer your questions about any of our integrity systems, including the shift to eIDs.

NLIS Database Uplift Project

It’s great to see the NLIS Database Uplift Project progressing at pace with Stage 3 - Architecture and Design well underway. This stage is expected to complete by the end of September, with the project on track to be delivered by 30 June 2026 and within the three-year grant timeline.

The project team has already identified ways the current NLIS workflows and database processes can be merged, reduced or removed entirely to deliver significant timesaving efficiencies for all NLIS users by utilising a far more simplified user interface.

More details of our progress will be provided in our next project update. If you haven’t already done so, you can subscribe to receive our regular email updates and learn more about the project.

Reminder to complete the transporter eNVD survey

In closing, just a quick reminder that ISC's Livestock Transporter Survey is still open. This project is designed to help ISC identify what barriers are preventing transporter uptake of eNVDs and what actions are needed to overcome these.

I’d be grateful if you could complete the survey or share it with your networks. We want to capture the journeys and experience of as many livestock transporters as possible.

I hope you enjoy this month’s Integrity Matters.

Kind regards
