With the new year rapidly approaching and the mandatory sheep and goat eID about to come into effect on 1 January, it’s a good opportunity for producers to be thinking about what rebates might be available to them before the end of the 2025 financial year.

Sheep and goat eID

With tagging set to become mandatory for all sheep and goats born after 1 January, producers should be investigating what rebates are available to help minimise the cost of purchasing new tags.

NSW relaunched its tag rebate program on 1 November and many of these programs are operated on a first come/first served basis, so it’s advisable to get your applications in asap if you’re still looking for rebates to help offset the cost of your tags.

This page on the ISC website has a state-by-state guide to what rebates are available, together with scheduled rollout dates and other useful resources.

Other rebates

George Basha, ISC’s Operations Analyst, was at the Australian National Field Days in NSW and was pleasantly surprised to discover the SAFEWORK small business rebate which provides $1,000 towards new equipment, such as a race, that contributes to health and safety on-farm.

George said he’d encourage NSW producers to enquire about this one, particularly if they're thinking about investing in new equipment to support your transition to eIDs.

While this one is NSW-based, producers in other states should investigate any similar schemes that might be on offer for them by speaking with the relevant government department or doing a quick search online.
