New approach to controlling wild dogs

Wild dogs present a significant challenge to many producers – often killing or maiming livestock when left unchecked.

Besides predatory behaviour, wild dogs can also carry a wide range of parasites and diseases that pose a serious threat not only to livestock, but also to wildlife and domestic pets.

Your responsibilities as an LPA-accredited producer

The Livestock Production Assurance (LPA) program requires accredited producers to complete a Biosecurity Plan and manage livestock in line with the Australian Animal Welfare Standards which requires producers take reasonable actions to protect livestock from predation.

Where wild dogs pose a risk to your livestock and enterprise, you should ensure this is captured in your LPA Biosecurity Plan.

Established five years ago, the project approaches the problem at a community level and producers have seen improvements in their profitability, calving rates and breeder safety as a result.
