Completing a biosecurity plan

With summer here, producers may be facing extreme weather events, such as fire or flood, over the coming months.

Biosecurity risks increase quickly during and after these types of natural disasters and LPA-accredited producers should take this opportunity to review and update their biosecurity plans to ensure they are prepared for any potential risks.

Completing a biosecurity plan will help you document and manage key risks to your enterprise and any livestock on the property. This could include:

  • quarantining any introduced livestock upon arrival and monitoring them for disease or illness
  • ensuring all livestock feed is free from contaminants
  • frequent health inspections are conducted for all livestock on the property
  • keeping all visitors onto the property (people or vehicles) away from high-risk areas
  • monitoring and managing any feral animals or pests, and
  • providing all farm staff with appropriate knowledge and training, where applicable.

Two ways to complete your biosecurity plan

There are two ways to complete and submit a biosecurity plan for your Property Identification Code (PIC) number.

  1. Completing your biosecurity plan as part of your LPA accreditation.
When completing your LPA accreditation online, you will be prompted to complete your biosecurity plan before proceeding to complete your accreditation.

When completing your LPA accreditation offline, the biosecurity plan will be provided as part of the pack you receive. You can complete the biosecurity plan and return it with your accreditation forms for processing.

2. Complete the online LPA biosecurity plan template and upload it to your LPA account.

Reviewing and updating your Biosecurity Plan

Once complete, it's recommended that you review your biosecurity plan at least once a year to ensure it remains accurate and aligned with your on-farm practices.
