Dealing with system transfer warnings
The number one reason producers contact our Customer Service team each month is when they receive a warning email about a NLIS system transfer.
These warnings occur when a device has been transferred OFF a different Property Identification Code (PIC) to the one it is registered to in the NLIS – causing a loss to traceability. When this transfer occurs via a saleyard it’s a warning 6 but if it’s not a saleyard transfer it’s a warning 21.
Receiving a warning 21 email indicates your PIC is featured somewhere in the animal's movement history. You aren't required to take any action in response as the movement has already occurred.
Warning emails provide useful information (such as the PICs involved) to assist you in investigating the message and provide a reminder to check all livestock on your property have been moved onto your PIC in the NLIS.
Maintain traceability and avoid a warning
To avoid warning emails, ensure you record all livestock arriving onto your property (PIC) in the NLIS within two days of their arrival.
You are still responsible for the movement being recorded even if your agent completes livestock movements on your behalf. Checking movements have been recorded is recommended where you use an agent or third party to record livestock movements on your behalf.
Conducting regular PIC reconciliations of the devices physically on your property compared to the devices registered to your NLIS Database account, can help you identify (and rectify) any outstanding transfers.
