ISC infrastructure upgrade

ISC Infrastructure Upgrade

Integrity Systems Company recently completed a significant data infrastructure upgrade moving to Amazon Web Services (AWS).

AWS provides cloud computing platforms and data storage to individuals, companies, and governments. The National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) database will be housed within the Australian region within Amazon, guaranteeing that the data will be kept physically in Australia.  ISC has no current or future plans to move data overseas.

Consultation

As part of the process, ISC consulted with each state department of agriculture who have access to and use the stored data in accordance with integrity system arrangements. This consultation was focused on managing cybersecurity, data sovereignty and disaster recovery.  All State Departments of Agriculture reviewed, and agreed to, the migration of NLIS to AWS.

Protecting our market access

A red meat integrity system underpinned by secure data protects the traceability and customer assurance requirements of the product we sell globally. Our strengthened data system will protect market access into the future and will also ensure our systems perform more effectively, providing a better service to our customers.

The ISC Technical team has worked extensively with stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition, however should unforeseen issues be encountered, further minor outages may be required. We appreciate your patience as we work through this necessary transition to upgrade our system to ensure there is the necessary capacity to meet future requirements.

Data Migration FAQs

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a subsidiary of Amazon and provides on-demand cloud computing platforms and data storage to individuals, companies, and governments.  AWS is used by the Australian Federal Government and is certified to carry protected government data by the Australian Cyber Security Centre.

More information about AWS and Australian Data Privacy is available here.

The National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) database will be housed within the Australian region within Amazon. This guarantees that the data will be kept physically in Australia and ISC has no current or future plans to move data overseas.

The Amazon cloud is spread across eight Sydney data centres - the majority of which are not owned by Amazon. Amazon contracts space in these local data centres, applies its AWS cloud technology and then makes it available for companies to subscribe to its services.

  • The data centres to be used for NLIS are also used by Australian Banks as well as many ASX listed enterprises and have passed all of their controls and regulations.
  • Due to Amazon’s scale, they have more advanced security and backup systems than smaller players, hence the majority of the market is moving to these few major providers, to reduce risk and increase the protection of their user’s data.
  • All State Departments of Agriculture have reviewed with and agreed to the migration of NLIS to AWS.
  • The move to AWS will not only improve our data safety, it will also ensure our systems perform more effectively, providing a better service to our customers.
