About LPA
Livestock Production Assurance is crucial for maintaining and growing Australia’s $74.5 billion red meat industry.
It underpins Australia’s biosecurity, food safety, animal welfare and traceability credentials.
Without it, Australia would not be the dominant global red meat producer that it is.
LPA continues to provide world-class assurance to domestic and international customers that Australian red meat is safe to eat, ethically produced and is of high quality.
Livestock Production Assurance Explained!
Who does LPA apply to?
LPA is a voluntary industry program that cattle, sheep and goat owners can choose to be part of, however majority of Australian red meat processors and retailers require their livestock to have come from an LPA-accredited property making LPA accreditation key to selling your livestock.
LPA accreditation gives you access to LPA National Vendor Declarations (NVDs) and eNVDs, where you declare that you have met the requirements of the LPA program, when you move your livestock.
The history of Livestock Production Assurance
LPA was started in 2004 when industry and government came together to solve a growing biosecurity threat. The program was developed so our industry had consistent on-farm standards and practices to manage potential food safety risks and assure global customers about the integrity of Australian red meat. Since then, the Livestock Production Assurance system has continued to evolve to ensure Australian red meat meets the needs of our customers globally.
Integrity Systems Company (a wholly owned subsidiary of Meat & Livestock Australia), managers and delivers the LPA program on behalf of industry via the Supply Chain Taskforce.
The LPA Program is partially cost recovered through collecting LPA accreditation fees and NVD book purchases. The costs to run the LPA Program and eNVD system that are not met by cost recovery are supplemented with a portion of industry levies.
